WHO WE ARE

Hartsville Presbyterian Church is a local congregation of the Presbyterian Church in America. We are a new work, but we are endeavoring to follow old and true paths. It is our deepest desire as we seek to organize as a church to glorify God by being intentionally biblical. By that we do not mean that we desire to go back in time to some supposed ancient golden age, nor to recreate any such age in our own time. What we mean by being biblical is that it is our deliberate intent to take the timeless truths and principles of the Bible, learn them, apply them, and live them out in our modern context.

We are to be known as the Hartsville Presbyterian Church because that name says much about who we want to be:

Hartsville - We love our community and we are glad to be a part of it. We want to be known as a church that has a heart for the people of Hartsville and the surrounding communities. We want to respond to the biblical mandate to love our neighbor by loving and serving the Hartsville community.

Presbyterian - We don't think God has left us to guess how to set up his church, but rather has revealed in his Word, the Bible, how the church should be governed and organized. We want to follow the biblical principle of elder leadership; being a church that is established and governed by the oversight and shepherding of elders and is thus Presbyterian.

Church - We do not want to be a cult, a club, a clique, or even a mere service organization. We want, first and foremost, to be a gathered body of Christian believers, settled on the truths of the Bible with our primary focus the glorifying and enjoying of God, which then overflows in our love and service to others.
